Is there a difference between male and female RES'? I wasnt sure if one was more aggressive or friendlier to be around

I don't think so. Male and female RES tend to have equal chance to have good
or bad personalities, so to speak.

However, others may have different opinions about this. :)

I say female turtles are less aggresive then males by far.

I agree Painteds. Females are much calmer, too.

But I have heard on rare occasions of aggressive females, but that is usually towards people, rather than other turtles.

My female RES is aggressive but not to the point of hurting my male RES. You might say she just keeps him in check. They swim and bask together quite well.

My RES are ALL friendly to each other, male and females. However, the male seems to be the most aggressive when I try to pick him up.Opens his mouth and hisses.

One of my turtles, who might end up being male (although I am pretty certain Hurricane is a female) is very cool with being picked up. Doesn't bother her at all. Typhoon doesn't hiss or bite, but she gets tired of being held very quickly and tries to make a mad dash for it.

my smaller one is friendly, adventurous and outgoing. but my bigger one is just stubborn all the time, swims away from me, and is usually grumpy. hes just old or just too much of a male
