how long can a turtle egg be in water before it will die? sorry wierd question I know but my gf's friend has a male and a female water turtle (I have no clue what kind) Anyways her friend texted her and asked if she wanted a egg. But the thing is the egg was laid at about 11 pacific time this morning and will be in the water for a couple more hours. Being a grand total of 5 or 6 hours my question is will it already be dead, or could she incubate it and see what happens? Next question is; she will be using a deli container can she mix the vermiculite, peat moss and sphagnum moss soak it down and put it in the cntainer with the egg and move it to her house this evening. She lives in Las Vegas and its 100+ degrees outside there today. That will cook that egg so I would think she would be better moving it at night. Thanks in advance for your help.

Aside from an egg being cookedd in warm water which is possible I also believe an egg can drown if in water to long if I am recalling what I last read right.

Yeah, I was doing some research and found that eggs being laid in the water need to be removed right away. So that egg is a goner, but the turtle laid three last week and one earlier this week, so it probably has a couple more eggs in it and she is going to put it in a nest box, so we shall see. If it does lay more, my gf is going to incubate them with my guidance and we will see if we can successfully hatch them. That would be so cool!!!

Actually the turtle in discussion is in Las Vegas, Nv. Thats where my gf leaves and it is her friends turtles. But her friend doesn't want the eggs and knew I had one so she asked my gf if she wanted them. I was scrambling all day trying to research incubating and nesting of a red ear slider. I didn't think about trying to breed mine for atleast two more years or so. It will be very interesting if that turtle lays more eggs in the nest box.

if i wore you i wouldn't want to breed red ear sliders. it would be nice having so many but its not necessary theres already enough. but hey, i cant stop you. do what you wish
