When I got my RES, Lizzy. I was very worried about her comfort and living conditions. I quickly got her a bigger rubbermaid container to put her in. (I am on a tight budget)

So, I have been using this site to learn about the supplies I needed and I have been adding UVB/UVA lights, heater, filter, fake plants for hiding, and basking dock. Today I caught her sun bathing for about 20mins.

It made me so happy I had to post!

congrats......ive had my res for a week and still no basking they just hide under the rocks all day..but nice to hear about your turtles..

they bask a lot hen u arent around when they r shy. most fo the time the only bask from morning to early afternoon and swim the rest.

I have notice this. Thats why I was so excited to catch her basking! OH YEA! I forgot to add that I think it is totally cute how Lizzy sticks her head and all of her legs out while she is basking. lol very exciting

I have a 5inch male res that the only way I know he's basking is I har the splash when I come in the room. I also have a smaller RES that didn't mind when he was smaller to bask when I was in the room but as he get larger he doesn't like to be seen basking. Odd how they change

Aww! Congrats! It's always nice to hear how a few changes in the setup can so positively affect the turtle ^_^

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! my 2 RES buster and eugene love to bask at night never during the day, so I always peek my head up from my bed and catch them basking but most of the time they always jump back in the water before I can fully see them.
