Our rescue turtles are both female, one is 6.5" the other is 4". I know for sure that they never had a nesting area before. I am worried that the 6.5" has eggs or will have since she is around 5 yrs old. Can I get people to post their nesting sites so I can get some ideas. :)

I don't have one set-up at this time, but mine is a 20 gallon long tank with a 50/50 mix of organic soil and play sand.Keep it moist and leave the turtle in there for 3 a day until she lays. She may or may not like the nesting box and lay in the water.

How will I know when she's ready to lay? And will she lay without having good nutrition?

Is she showing signs of being gravid? Has she had a noticeable loss of appetite? Is she restless, does she make digging motions with her hind legs?

She's not showing any gravid or digging motions. I only got her recently and she was in poor health when I got her, so no loss of appetite. But thanks painteds :) that will help alot. I will keep an eye on her too.
