Hello people,

Wow its been a while since i last posted. I have a question regarding my turtles appetite, Leo hasn't been eating for a few days, I've tried everything i can think of to get him to eat but hes still not eating. I've tried feeding him minnows,reptomin pellets, greens but all to no end he just doesn't seem to want to eat. everything in his tank is the same: water is at 79 and his basking is at 91 (hes still basking), new reptiglo 5.0 26w bulb. He's still active swimming around trying to bite my finger. The only thing else i can think of is maybe his eating has something to with the change of temp.

Is anyone else having this sort of issue with their turtles?thanks for the advice/help in advance

Since the sudden weather drop from last week or so(here in San Francisco,Ca, it dropped from around the mid-70's to lo-60's), my turtles were barely eating for a few days. Now especially Turbo's, their appetites have considerably decreased(Treat worked on Trouble but not Turbo). Also they (esp. Turbo)have been moving against the glass fairly restlessly. Everything else go on pretty much as usual. Is Leo somewhat restless too?

Could anyone please help us?

They are inside and the temp is almost constant. Today they are eating again(treat) but not too much comparing to their usual appetite. Oh, forgot to mention that I started to give them turtle bone 2-3 weeks ago, would that matter? Thanks.

The turtle bone, is it cuttlebone? If so did you take off the hard backing? Do you have gravel in your tank?

Hey, Sabrina! Yes it is the cattle bone from Zoo Med. I didn't chip off the backing(do I have to?) but I suppose that was not the reason why they didn't eat -- Turbo cannot bite the bone with his deformed jaw and barely touched the bone, but he still lost his appetite.
Today they are eating again. They woke me up and begged for food. When I got near the tank, Turbo was like, "food,food, food,please,food..." So I guess that must be the weather because it is warm again today.

My babies were rescued too. Turbo is the toughest survivor -- he is born with a deformed upper jaw and his right eye missing. By the time he was 18mo, he already went through two surgeries. Thank god, now he is a happy and lively little guy!


sanoske: How is Leo doing? Is he now eating?

Well I'm glad their appetite picked up. But if you have heaters in your tank and it keeps a steady temp thenthe weather outside shouldn't effect them. It is around 30 here and my turtles still are piggys.

Yes the cuttlebone needs to have the backing off. It is to hard for them to digest, I believe. Heres the link for the cuttlebone.

Turbo and Trouble are very lucky. Sorry to hear all that Turbo has been through. But he sounds much better.
