Okay so I'm not sure if I'm just a terrible mommy to this little guy, but I just noticed (yes just tonight about five minutes ago) that Squirts back left foot only has three toes. The foot looks deformed. He was basking and has his back legs straight up in the air and resting on his belly and I was gonna take a pic of him and noticed it. Hes never been with any other turtles so I know he wasn't attacked. What could this be? Is it normal for them to put legs straight up in the air when basking. Nothing but his shell was touching the platform. all legs straight up. Thanks for any help/suggestions in advance.

About the legs straight up in the air that is normal,mine been doing this since day 1,as for the missing toe you might try to look around the tank,there must be something not safe.

This doesn't look like a new problem. Nothing in the tank. It actually looks like a birth defect although i don't know that. i'm really trying to get a good pic of it to post but he is so active that it's very hard to do. As soon as I can get a pic I will! Thanks for the post!

How long have you had him and how big was he when you got him?
There are two possibilities; It could be an old healed injury (I'm thinking another turtle bit his foot), or he could have been born with it.

As long as it's not raw, and looks fully healed, there's nothing really you need to do.

In the last pic you can see how different the left is from the right. Please help i'm not sure what happened. It really does not look like a new problem, more like something that he's had for a while. IT's hard to get close to squirt when he's basking and i just happened to be napping and wake up. i was gonna take and noticed the foot.

I think it's just a birth defect.
