My friend recently gave me a Mississippi, Ouachita and False map turtles. He bought some but didn't expect to get so many. Apparently he didn't read the ad well. Got more then he bargain for, though he'll just get two Mississippi but yeah. He gave me one of each and they're a bit shy so I'm just wondering in the community, how long did your turtle have new tank syndrome? Slyder had it for about 2 days and was really out going with new things. Zoilo had it for about 4 days.

For some reason, my tank doesn't go through any cycling though I never hear about it lasting more than a week.

Steve i think she's referring to the turtle being shy, poor eater, and so on as soon as you get it

Just give it a week or two to get used to the new surroundings. Some turtles warm up sooner than others, but they all come around.

I was kinda asking the community how long did their turtle have it. I know my turtle will take a while to get used to it. I have to seperate them to let them eat or else my RES will eat it all.

Thanks for clearing it up... I was trying to read 200 new topics today... lots of catching up to do

I think it really depends upon how much movement there is in the room that the tank is in, and how natural the tank feels to them. If it is constantly busy, the turtle will have a harder time focusing on his surroundings and won't get acquainted as quickly.

My turtle took about a week before she really started basking regularly, from what i remember.

Frankie settled in immediately. She was in a 30g temporarily (better than where I got her from), but she ate pellets and lettuce the first night. When I moved her into her new 90g, she was basking within a couple hours! Nothing phases her.

Similar with Ralph, when I moved him into his new 75g. He was surprised at first not to hit the bottom of the tank, sort of looked around, then went over to flirt with is rock

They were both adults when they moved to new tanks though, so maybe that makes them less affected by change than hatchlings...

Eh, the three new map turtles are a bit shy right now. They aren't afraid to bask, they stack on each other in fact but they're afraid when I look over their tank. When I go away they swim, bask and do whatever turtles do. But when I look over the tank then they stop moving and lay at the bottom or rush back into the water as fast as they can if they're basking, my RES is just looking around saying "where's everybody going?" At least they eat the greens that my RES refuses to eat. I just they'll gain the attitude my RES has right now.

My turtles Renegade and Bella took totally different amounts of time. Renegade was outgoing and happy and eating and basking within 8 hrs and Bella took about a month to not swim away be so cautious. So depends on turtle I am figuring
