I was doin some remodeling on the rim of the tank to hang something and I guess a small piece of plastic about the size of a mazouri pellet fell in. Anyway, I missed it and then later noticed Niko chewing on something, so I go over to look and there is a piece of the black plastic from the tank trim in his mouth. I turned aorund for a min to get some tweezers to see if I could pop it out gently and when I came back to the tank it was gone and Niko was swimming around lookin like usual. Now for all I know Niko may have sput it out and it got pulled in by the filter because I didnt see it floating around in the tank. For arguments sake though lets say Niko did swallow it, what are the chance of it impacting / killing him ? Nikos 3.5" at last weight check so I guess his "bum hole" is of a good size to pass it but I dont know.

I can say with some certainty this is the only time Niko has ever swallowed a foreign object as I keep a bare bottom tank but with it being the size of a mazouri pellet do you think Niko will be ok ?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I dont think a very small piece of plastic would be the doom to a turtle.

MB-Wine - I would not worry about it. More than likely if he/she can get into their mouth they can poop it out. Mine ate some carpet and I was picking out of his butt for a few days.

I've been thinking, I know this is kind of a dumb question but I wana be sure of this. Assuming it does end up causing Niko issues approcimately how many days later should I start lookin for signs to worry ? Right now Niko appears to be doin just as well as he's always been so maybe I'll be ok but it's better to play it safe than sorry.

Someone was posting that their turtle was pooping gravel for up to 2 or 3 months after they had taken all the gravel out of the tank. So it can take a while sometimes to work through their digestive tract! Just keep an eye on the tank and if you do see it again scoop it out, not much else you can do!
