My new RES been doing great in his tank, but the only places he goes are in the corners and the sides. He swims against the sides like he needs to get somewhere? Is this normal?

hes prob trying to swim out because he thinks he can cuz he sees his reflection on the wall

Both my RES do this. It could be because they see their reflection (like coreyvht said) or because the glass is clear and they see that there is something beyond it and try to reach it. RES don't usually exhibit this behaviour if they are in a container that doesn't have see-through walls.
