ive always heard that in a fist tank green algae is good and brown algae is bad

is the same thing true in my turtles' tank, should i leave it alone or clean it off?

It depends.. I'm no algae expert so hopefully someone else will chime in, but I've had aquariums for a while and here's my assessment..

Is your algae "blooming" (growing very quickly within a short amount of time), or staying constant? Algae is naturally occuring no mtter what, but problems can be caused by excessive food waste, dirty water, dead plant material and most of all, direct sunlight. If your tank is hit by sunlight, algae issues will be more often, and bigger than if there was no direct sunlight. Bleach can kill algae and bacteria, but don't use too much.

On the main site there may be a page about algae, how to contain it and how much is too much. If not, and if no one has any other thoughts, exercise your google-fu, you aren't the first aquarium keeper to have algae issues. Good luck.
