I just got another baby RES i literally just took him out of the box he was delivered in and put him in the tank with the other one. The other baby RES i got last thursday and i dont think he is really eating. This one i got today has already eaten 3 pellets which is great. He swims around and is eating. I think it may be because he maybe like a 1/4 inch bigger but he is so active. The other one sleeps alot while holding on to a plant. So what i am asking is if the other turtle eats his and the others food is that really bad? and does this little bit of difference in size make a difference in how they act?

Perhaps the first RES is still adjusting. Or, perhaps he's ill (a period of quarantine, around 90 days, would have been good).

And yes, one turtle eating the food meant for two obviously is bad. One turtle will starve, the other one will become obese and have health problems. Try feeding them separately. What is the water temp and basking area temp?

yea, that really was not smart of putting him right into the tank, as marisa said, you should have waited 90 days, ESPECIALLY since it was delivered...

well i had no where else to put him i could not afford another tank for 90 days. He looks great and is active and eating so i think he will be ok.

water temp is 82 and basking i dont have a thermometer but it is warmer

i dont know if the first one has a disease. He looks fine and swims and basks just not eating yet. The firts one just sleeps alot but he is also smaller then the new one. I got that appetite plus stuff so i will see if that works.

As long as everything else seems normal, I wouldn't worry. I got some newbies last friday and it took one til I think tuesday to eat anything. Both basking and water temps are very important. Thermometers are cheap so you really need to go get one. Just get the plastic one tho because the glass ones have mercury in them and you don't want that breaking in the tank.

and please bring the water temp down to around 78 degrees, and read the stickys on the different areas and the main site for water/basking areas

If the one turtle is ill, having the temps a little warmer (water about 80F and basking area 10 degrees higher) would help him fight an infection. Any chance you could give the one that's not eating his own little set-up with the temps a bit warmer?

i dont have another tank and cant afford to buy another one i spent a ton on the one i have now
