What is the max temp a basking area can be? and is it bad if it is over the max temperature what can happen?

if the temp is too high, the turt will either not bask, or bask and get burned. It happens to lizards and snakes a lot if they can get too close to the light.

I wouldn't go any higher than mid 90s for basking temp. I keep mine around 91.

A basking temp that's too high is especially dangerous for hatchlings, who can get "knocked out" by the heat and literally fry.

Not sure why you are thinking about extreme temperatures... if you have a tank correctly setup and if you read the general information on this site, it shouldn't be a concern.

I usually set my basking temperature ranging from 91F to 93F max. Any temperature pass the 95F degrees area probably would be too hot. Like Marisa said, I won't be surprise that hatchlings can easily get "knocked out" by such heat. Same goes for human. Many people, especially the elderly, gets completely knocked out during the hot summer days. Some get sunburn just by staying @ the beach. I remember when I fell asleep for about a hour during my cruise to the Carribean Island and boy did that leave a scar. I was burn up! Once again Joem, you should really listen to Carol's (CAM722) advice. Do a search before you post a thread.
