Good afternoon.
Im sure this has been asked and answered numerous times, but Im gonna ask again. Ive done some quick research, and it seems like I should be okay.
Will a 6" Eastern Painted co-exist with two 3" RES?
I am currently building a 180 gallon tank, and its been cycling for weeks. Fish have been living well, and I was scheduled to put both of my 3" RES in the tank tomorrow. But I just got a call, and was asked if I could take a 6" Eastern Painted. I couldnt say no.. so now, the Eastern is in the 180. Am I still safe to put the RES in with him/her?
Thanks in advance,
Matt.steve

Is it a male or female? Painteds are not as aggressive as RES, so you can try it though I would prefer it if the RES were a bit larger.

I have no idea on the sex of the painted. Ill try and figure that out later tonight. Just trying to get him used to the tank.

I agree, though 6" is the "max" listed for a male painted on ATP. I just want to be sure

Well, I was estimating 6", when i get a chance, I'll measure, and let you know. But is there anything else I could look for that would prove it male/female?
Thanks,
Matt.steve

All 3 females, though if thats a tail in the 3rd pic, then it's a male.

Survery Says! female, male , female. Aww ty for playing the game, but remember your not walking empty handed...wait yes you are. Anyway Thats why Inever say go by claws with Easterns. Male claws arent much bigger then females and that male isnt a small guy either he is right about at 5.8inches. Biggest Eastern male I have ever seen so far.

Sorry for the wait, got busy/side tracked last night with the hockey game and stuff.
Anyways, the painted is 5 1/4". My two RES are both around 3".
They have now been in 180gallon together for 24 hours, and seem to be getting along. Already saw one of the RES basking ontop of the painted.
