Got my new RES

I picked up the RES today and it turns out that he is a 10+ year old instead of a 1 year old and is about 6" long. I have him in the 10g tank that I got with him and I am going to put him in my spare 20g tomorrow until I save up the money for a stock tank. He was only fed pellets for the last 3 years and fish for the 7 years before that. Right now he is munching on some collard greens. He seems to be trying to bask under water. Is that normal? I'll get some pictures of him in a little bit. Also would it be ok for me to put a log in the tank as a basking spot?

He could just be adjusting. What kind of log? The best kind of wood to use in a tank is driftwood or corkbark. Cork make great basking areas.

I made a plastic basking area for him so I don't need the log. I am not sure what kind of wood in is.

Mine "bask" under water too. They bask on the dock mostly but some times I will catch them at the bottom of the tank with their legs stretched out like they are basking. I think its kind funny :D
