My girlfriend is ever surfing through craigs list she found these today after I told her I was thinking about geting a baby turtle

If jeggy takes my two adults I could take these on for a little while. Since I have a 55 and a 20 gallon.

Yeah that's pretty bad .. although they look relatively good for being kept in those kinds of conditions. I'd have expected horriblel pyramiding.

Ok, if you're getting rid of your adult turtles, why would you be getting new turtles?

I dont have the room for a big enough tank. I love RES and plan to move into a house in the next year or two, but for now the two adults that were given to me 2 months ago according to everyone will not be ok in the 55 gallon tank i have.

So to give them a better home and get something smaller that can live in my 55 gallon tank would be better. Those people have a 40 gallon tank so I could put two in the 55 and the big one in the 40 alone.

But they have already been sick so it might just be a lost cause.

Wow, those turtles don't look good at all. Loving care my left tooth! I think the one turtle has something wrong with his shell, pyramiding possibly if you look in the last pic, the turtle on the right, his shell looks like it has it. I hope someone can get those turtles out of there.

The tank looks like ...well crap. It's one of those 'cut down' I call them. That's their first mistake.

Lets first look at the positives: there is a UV light, an attempt at giving them good conditions. There is a heat source, a ceramic one but it's better than none. I prefer household bulbs. cheaper. and there are basking places.

ok I can't say enough good.

The water is gross, the filter is obviously no good. And like i said, the tank has much to do with it. Less water, more concentrate icky water...it's gotta reek too.

They turtles look okay. Sure we're big on clean water,etc...but RES can live in some of the cruddiest, nastiest, grossest conditions...and look just fine. (can't say about how healthy they are inside though!) but they are survivors and can tolerate extreme conditions where it's filth(to a limit of course) or extreme temps (femals RES found under ICE in Sweden, swimming around)
As far as pyramiding, minor pyramiding does not affect their overall health-I do not believe there is proof that it shortens their lifespan either - my four are a little screwed up..they're not severe but they do have a bit of pyramiding...fed too much when I first had them, then I learned...Mike's shell's actually growing less bumpier while Raph's is bumpy still. Tokka's is funky and Casey's is hard but she's got one softer, caved in spot...puzzles me how she could get that - and remember these turtles genetically can be screwed up(i think Casey's issue is partly genetic), remember how they're bred by thousands...genes mean nothing...who knows how inbred they are like rodentia, inbred rats and mice for the pet industry...

the last thing...$100 for THAT?!?!?!

i know, its mad....i'm not paying $100 for 3 turtles and a cruddy tank, thats where they want the money from, the tank.....i payed $50 for a tank 10 gallons bigger, and thats just crazy

I paid $165 for deal of the century a year ago: 120g acrylic TruVu tank, canopy and stand. I'll just say my RES have been very happy. I'm gonna toss up a few photos of their old tank & new tank and some other pics....

I paid two dollars for my 20 gallon long tank at a yard sale!!!! So why would I pay 100 dollars for a tank that doesn't even amount up to what my tank can hold!?


Plus if they don't want the turtles they shouldn't be charging a 100 dollar adoption fee! Maybe 50 would be alright but still, if you can't care for them don't go charging people to take your problem off of your hands.

I'm not trying to put you off, but, if you type the word "pyramiding" into the search function, you'll find more than enough posts/threads on it. It has been a frequent topic of discussion in the recent past.
