Hi Everyone i haven't introduced myself yet but i will as soon as i make my post i have a YPS i know not a RES but same kinda ? anyway i posted pictures of his shell on another forum and didn't really get any help even tho tons of people viewed it the scutes on the end of his shell look almost like there shedding i posted a picture and the one person that did reply couldn't see but he said he saw hard water deposits and retained scutes so im gunna post the same pictures here and hope to get more feedback and hopefully some help on fixing these issues if they are there.

I see some shedding. There also appears to be fast growth, so you might need to curb the pellets/protein. Welcome to the site.

wht do u mean by curb ? ugh im getting sad now and fast growth of what ? sorry im slacking i know i rarely ever take him out of his tank someone told me it causes them stress and stuff so he gets the hello good morning and some stops here and there by the family but his shell is always wet so nothing looks wrong but i took him out the other day and noticed the end shells looked like they were poping off i didn't no turtles shed so i posted about him ( they do shed woot lol)

You don't have to take him out of his tank. The shell could be smoother, for feeding pellets, read http://redearslider.com/pellets.html and when in doubt, feed fewer pellets.

If other family interact with him, that's fine but they should allow time for him to bask a few hours a day and make sure they don't sneak him snacks.

yea im the only one that feeds him everyone wants it and moms take care if it haha and i dont EVER EVER see him on his dock hes always in the water hes got plants in there he uses like a chair and he just sits there but ive never seen him on his dock not sence when we first got him as a hatchling in june he would be up there allll the time and hmm yea the pellets i prolly feed him to many and at night we cut the lights down kinda looks like the moon shinning into his tank to him is that ok or should the light always be on ?

and do u see any retained scutes or hard water deposits?

wow so i just read that thing i am over feeding donatello EXTREAMLY it says to feed every other day im feeding him daily and it says the size of his head well his head size would be like 2 pellets im giving him like 10-12 well issue one being fixed

From the pics, I see retained scutes. Feeding pellets every other day is for adult RES.

Just be consistent when you feed protein. Use a pill box to sort out the daily feedings too.

How old is he? It's really important that he basks, basking helps shedding too. Turtles are shy, especially babies, so if his dock is in an exposed place where people are walkin by all the time, that might be why. Another reason he might not be basking is the water temp, to encourage him make the water just a little colder then room temp. Babies should shed their scutes quite a bit since they go through a growth spurt till they reach about the age of two, then growth slows down. Turtles can get sick if they dont bask enough. Lastly, take the poor babe out!!! hahah they love getting out n stretchin their legs! It doesnt have to be for very long, but a run about never hurt nobody!
