I am adopting a 10 year old female this weeknd. She has been in a 20 g tank with no lights for a while now.... she is pretty shy.n
i am just wondering about others experiences with taming an adopted adult?

if u take her out and handle her she may get better but to see a complete change in behavior is doubt-able
plus some RES just dont like being handled

If you can get her in a proper tank setup and give her time, she may open up and lose some of her shyness. She should eventually get over some of her fear of you, but it may take a long time. If she doesn't like being handled now, she probably won't ever like being handled.

Congrats on the rescue. Giver her space and privacy to start. After she associates you with food, she'll be much more friendly.

That's my vote = maybe even start by feeding her in a separate bin.
Then she will really put the two together.
My gal came from the wild, and we were able to tame her to the point of hand feeding and sitting on our laps waiting for a little head rub.
It took a couple months for her to trust us, but...the way to a RESs heart is through the stomach - pardon the cliche.
