Rocky our male turtle is having a strange behavior. He is leaving his hind feet extended more than normal. He would always contract into his shell when we clean him at water changing time and now he leves them out of the shell?
They move normaly but he hardley retracts them inside, a position he used to do when sleeping or relaxing?
Is this good/ bad/ or normal?
He is older than his female tank mate Shelly but she has passed him quickly in size. She is 3/4 larger and we fear bulling and have been trying to seperate them while feeding. Rocky has trouble finding and biting his food so we are giving him the time to eat slowly at his own pace.
let us know what you think or have experienced. Thanks.

Is he retracting his head and front legs in and just leaving back feat hanging or is just not retracting anything all? As lOng as he is swimming normal and useing to move on basking are he should be fine.
Everything else normal with him?

Yes the front end of the turtle works normaly, just the back feet. He swims and walks normaly and if tickled will retract the hind legs inside, but you have to play with them to get him to do it. Then they come right back out.
Everything else normal.

As long as he swims and walks okay i have to say i wouldnt worry. Only when he is not swimming or walking right would it be something of concern.

This is about Rocky again, I noticed this morning he is hanging his feet out and not quite using them, also I noticed that he is not swimming at all he is just floating in the water, he seems lethargic. I place him on the counter and does not walk I have to push him to walk. He seems to be "listing in the water" going kind of sideways. He is eating more or less. Front legs seem to be just folded under the shell, not retracted inside.. Should I be concern???????? please help!!!!!!

I would have him checked out. How is his appetite? Is he still eating? Pooping?

This morning I took him out of his house, put him in different container and gave him frozen food, brine shrimp, he is eating, but I can see his is draging hes hind feet, and kind of floating sideways, I do not know if he is pooping, usually when I clean them he poops, this morning not! I ghess I should wait a little longer and see if he does it. any idea how much a vet. would cost?

The initial exam usually ranges from $50-75. To be honest, it doesn't tell you much and other procedures like x-rays and tests can reveal more info... or at the very least rule out some conditions.
