OK so Josie, 9" RES had been leaving our outdoor pond 3-5 times a day and wandering. We recognized the behaviour of last year and knew she was looking for a nesting site.
We watch her dig several aborted nest site, was she practicing?

I was fortunate enough to spy her leaving the pond on a Sunday afternoon and head down the back wall. She began digging in what we thought of as prime nesting soil, screened not too hard, and she went to town.

I made ann 11minute (didin't want to bore everyone with all 52 minutes!) YouTube video and posted it on my channel but you need the link to find it as my channel is about woodturning.
Here is the direct video. http://youtu.be/tOGE9fodA80

Sorry for the shaky camera, I was using my cell phone.

Good for her! I guess she found something wrong with those other sites. Thanks for posting the video, I really enjoyed it.

I thought maybe someone would enjoy watching!
She laid a total of 9 eggs.
It was hard to dig up the nest and destroy the eggs but that is being a responsible turtle owner.

So, you didn't keep the eggs because of difficulty to find homes for the hatchlings?
