Updates on my sick turtle

Apparently Mardel had stopped making fish meds. We tried tetracycline but the RI did not respond at all to it. So we bought the very last package of Maracyn two off the internet and proceeded to slowly bomb the tank with the meds in hopes that it would finally eradicate this stubborn illness without harming the turtle. We have had these turtles just over 4 months(which is about the same amount of time his previous owner had him/her) with limited success in fighting this thing. Finally, at the end of last week we had a breakthrough. The little turtle made a huge improvement. Suddenly he/she is not coughing at all and is playing and swimming under water with little effort. Still floats up if not swimming but that just may be because of size. He/she is no longer lopsided and it appears he/she is starting to grow(stuck at 1 1/4 inches all this time), I measured him/her at 1 3/8 inches yesterday. Today I will bring home a postal scale to weigh him/her.

Thats bad news about Mardel :( but terrific news about your turtle :)

RES big and small normally have and easy time floating at or near the surface.

They started off basically the same size...

Anyways, the little one now weighs 12 grams up from the original 6.

Too bad about Mardel, those were two of their most popular meds. I'm sure it's more drug regulation changes that caused them to pull it from the market.

I think Baydril is the standard med used to treat RI with turtles, you can still find it online. I would speak with a vet on how much of it to administer.
