Found turtle on criagslist (Phoenix)

Hi guys, first I wanted to stay thanks for all the helpful information I've received from this forum in the last year. I would have signed up before but I'm not much of a forum browser and you guys answer all my questions with a simple search in Google. Honestly, if this forum was on tapatalk, I probably would be on it often.

But back to reason for posting. Recently while going to look at a tank for sale, I noticed the seller had a fairly large turtle in a small bucket of water. He said he was trying to give it away but was going to take it to a pond if didn't find anyone. He said it was his ex girlfriend's and was around 9 years old. 5 or 6 inches seemed to small for that age to me.

So I'm trying to find it a home. I've left voicemails with some rescues around town but worried they might just put it to sleep. I'm going to call the zoo too but don't have time to be calling schools or want to take on another turtle. Already have 2 small ones for about a year.

I'm hoping maybe someone here is looking for a new turtle or can offer advise. I'll try to attach a picture from my phone but not sure if it will work.

Thanks for looking.

What about offering it to a pet store? I don't think there's much interest out there for RES, but at least at a store there will be a minimal amount of care offered.

Thanks for the response. Not sure about that, the petco I go to had a tank full of them and the water was so dirty. I'm sure one off them was dead. :(

I'll check out others around town to see if they have better care.

Oh gosh I wish I had advice to give :( I looked at Craigslist for turtles recently too. I was daydreaming about getting another turtle (although I don't have the room), and I saw a couple turtles in definite need of care. None quite so bad as a bucket though :( Maybe you could temporarily get a kiddie pool to keep the turtle in outside? It would be better than a bucket anyway, and could help the turtle get some UVB that it probably needs. I'm not expert but you might not want to put it in with your other turtles as it may have a disease. I hope someone takes it in :(
