Hey guys, brand new to posting here but I've been checking out the forums for awhile now.

I just moved my 7" RES to a 125 gallon preformed pond liner outside (it's staying above ground). Needless to say, I'm new to the world of canister filters as well. I purchased an XP3 and ran it with the "optional" setup, as per the instructions here, for 24 hours. Out of nowhere, the motor stopped! I checked to see if the poly-fil had clogged but the motor actually just quit. I have a new replacement coming in a couple days but my question is what do I do with the water that's currently in the pond?

It's not too dirty since my RES has only been living in it for about 3 days at this point (and only 1 day unfiltered). I continue to skim out any debris I see, but when the new filter arrives am I supposed to start all over again? Do I simply set the filter up with the "optional" route again, add a little more water to the pond and continue for 24-48 hours until I switch it to the normal setup with media?

Please help, I apologize for anything that can be found on the forums already, but I wasn't having any luck looking. Thanks!

There has been a rising number of complaints about the current XP3s. Mine are several years old and have been operating continuously.

I would probably do just a partial change. If you have a pump or powerhead to help agitate the water, that would be good too. Is there any substrate in the pond?

Thanks Steve! I'm going to give the XP3 another shot hoping it works this time. I don't have any substrate in the pond. I thought about sand simply for aesthetics but read it might not be a good idea. Thoughts?

OH no another XP3 goes Poof! Still waiting to get mine back and when it does its gone!

Really, what's happening with them? How did quality control go south so bad? Where does your say they are made? Mine says France.

Made in China. That explains everything

What about your FX filters?

The Company Hagen is from Canada. The filters are made in Italy.

Steve, You asked? I know your busy but what is your thought on this? Just curious.

My thoughts... API poorly made a transition to overseas manufacturing. A similar thing might have happened to Visitherm and their Stealth Heaters.

It seams to me that most quality fish care products are made in Germany,Italy etc. Not China.

There are some good generic filters and probably decent local brands from China/Asia. But when companies move manufacturing overseas, they have to be on top of the process and not just hand off operations to local suppliers. That's the feeling I get from this current generation of filters. Sad for them to build their reputation then throw it away.
