My dog jumped into Houdini's (my turtle) indoor pond. She took him out and chewed him up. I called the emergency vet, who doesn't treat turtles and gave me a number for a vet who she says MIGHT treat him, but not until Monday. I asked her if lidocaine jelly human prescription strength would hurt him because I want to ease his pain. She said it wouldn't hurt him so after I rushed to the store and bought iodine and cleaned him up and used neosporin I put some lidocaine on him just in case it helps. I have him in a clean dry space with a heating pad under one side of the box. He's finally sticking his head out of his shell and moving around a bit.

I have new plexiglass to put around his pond for when he's able to use it again so nothing else can get into it.

Any other advice is appreciated.

Update. He is doing much better... using ioidine and neosporin. Contacted Clearwater aquarium in Florida where I used to volunteer and talked with the turtle specialist. She said he can be back in his pond. He doesn't seem stressed or anything anymore. Moved him to a feeding tank to eat as to not aid infection. So let's hope he continues to recover.

Sorry for the late reply. Pain treatment is something that I think is pretty rare when dealing with turtles. How severe are the injuries? I'm not sure if I would return him to his pond after a day or two. I would probably stick to plain neosporin and some dry docking.
