Is there any way to inform these people that they are not 100% accurate?

I think this is the single thing that bothers me most:

Your water turtle needs a home with land and water areas. You can create this environment by:

Furnishing the terrarium with a water dish large enough for full-body soaking

That concerned me, as well as the part where they list the recommended temps. For an inside set up, there is no need for them the change at night. The basking temp, I see, the water temp - no.

What is totally confusing to me is that they say to have a large dish for a full body soak but then say to put in a filter.. how do you put a filter in a bowl?? or a heater for that matter?

It makes me so irritated to see them passing off this info to unsuspecting people wanting a turtle. I went to their contact page and simply said that their info was not accurate and they should provide better info in their care sheets. I also supplied this sites address as well as Austin's turtle page so they could have at least two sites to verify that they are wrong. Not like I expect it to help, but how will they know if no one complains.

I'll go do the same. I just didn't really figure that it would make much difference. Did you notice that they seem to have all of this 'vet assured' stuff. Well gee I wonder why. Too bad that promise is only good for two weeks.

That "vet assured" is a laugh. Why do you think they should be quarantined for 90 days? (which of course they don't suggest) Because illness can present itself for quite a long time after you purchase a turtle. This is just their way of getting out of responsibility. I've read that some illnesses (can't remember which) can show up as long as 2 years after your turtle comes in contact with them. Now I can't remember which website I was looking at when I read that or how accurate it is but it's something to keep in mind.

It sounds like they've confused water turtle with land turtles there...

I'm really pleased that the Petsmart near me doesn't sell turtles. The staff says they know that they can't keep them properly.

Of course that came from their online list of things, our petsmart doesn't carry turts either. I was actually surprised to find that on the webpage. I sent them a nice little note too. I listed my resources, including this site, and told them they should use them WHEN they rewrite their care sheet...notice I didn't use IF. I don't know if they will get the point or not.

the petsmart in san diego sell res and paint turts. on the little card outside there tank it says they only live 2-3 years and only grow 5-6 inches. wich i guess is true if you take care of them the way they tell you to.

Around Christmas the PetSmart near me had several RES for sale. There were 4 or so in something around the size of a 10 gallon aquarium, with a puddle of water for them. If someone writes to the company please let us know what their response is!
