Slide has run away. He has been scaling the perimeter fence and venturing out as we try to see where he gets out and remove his escape routes. Slide is a lot smarter than me and has been missing all day. We've searched all around the house with no luck. Slip is obviously devastated and quite confused.
Can we expect him to return on his own or is he probably a goner?

If he's outside your yard/fence, I'm not optimistic that he'll return on his own. If he's still inside your enclosure, you'll have to do some searching but he should be able to be found.

He's outside of the turtle compound and could be anywhere, near or far. wah hahhhhh

You need to keep looking. They are hard to spot but you need to keep looking. They might bury themselves or hide behind/under rocks, logs, anything. I don't know what your area is like... but you need to keep looking.

Do you have any bodies of water, brooks relatively near where you are? If so, he may have headed there. You need to keep searching everywhere.

If he's still inside the perimeter, I would think he'd show up eventually. If the weather is hot, I'd hose down the area to provide moisture and help draw him out. I'm assuming he can easily get back into his pond. If it's really warm where you are, you'll likely have a better chance of finding him earlier or later in the day before it gets too warm (he won't be as active then). Good luck finding him.

Yea, it'll be hot here today. It's 11:00am and it's 92 degrees. He's probably hiding under some bush somewhere. There are no streams or bodies of water (other than my pool and he's not there). We'll just keep looking and calling his name.

I'd hose down the area periodically, especially when the temp cools a bit. He won't hear his name being called...

No, not yet. We're still looking when we can. I hope we find him.

Yesterday my wife was looking through the lost and found ads in the local rag and there it was "Found turtle in the UCR area". What are the odds? She called and the lady said 'Oh no, I've had the article in the paper for a week and no one claimed him so I gave him to an animal rescue person'.This lady is 2 miles away! She gave my wife the number and she called and the man said 'Yea I had him but I turned over to the forest service to be placed back in the wild. But I'll call them and get him back'. Today my wife drove 25 miles to look at him and is 99% sure it's him. Same size and looks the same other than maybe alittle discolered from stress.

Hold the press. She came home with him and it can't be Slide. Slide was a good inch longer than slip. So we named him Shelldon.

Congrats on the rescue. So now you have 3 turtles? Start thinking about a bigger pond.
