A soft toothbrush. In my case, I use my old watercolor paintbrushes. They work for me. Although now, I dont clean him much since he discovered the joys of basking. Haha.

If you use a soft cloth or toothbrush at routine tank cleanings to gently wipe down his shell, everything should be fine. Be very gentle especially around the seams of the scutes since they are very sensitive.

If it's more like mineral deposits on the shell, I've heard of using a q-tip and some white vinegar to swab the shell with. Not sure how well this works since it's something I don't have to deal with.

Just water is fine and should work. Make sure that if you get fresh tap water that it isn't to hot or cold. I use a bit of the tank water though.
