Hi! Thanks for the welcomes. This is a great site. I'm Jolene, Ben's mom. Ben says Jonah is doing a head jerk thing while basking and yes, he is!! Is this normal?? Sometimes he'll jerk his leg too. It reminds of how sometimes your body jerks right before you go to sleep. I'm worried about the little guy (well he's not that little), 8 inches long. Other than that, I think he looks pretty normal. 'Course, I'm a new turtle mom so I could be wrong. I've checked water temp, air temp, doing water changes until I can get the right kind of filter. Anyone have any ideas? I did a search here but came up with zero.

Yes, turtles do this (my RES goes spastic sometimes). Your turtle is getting warm on the basking area. My RES will twitch, reposition himself a few times, and then go back into the water to cool off.

My turtle will do this too sometimes.
