Ok i finally got some money together to get my guys a new home and finally got a basking spot for them. I really got worried today after putting them in the new home that my oldest one biff got right up to the basking spot and started shedding like crazy!!! i have never seen him do this before! Since i am a college student my funds have been poor and i mean poor!!! i couldnt even buy light bulbs for the guys! i felt really bad about it. so my question is is biff just shedding because he has had no basking area for the past few weeks or is there something wrong with him??? Im not to worried about my other guys cuz there only about 2 months old... Thanks for any help i get!!!

What is the water temp in your set up? If it is too warm, it will cause excessive shedding. Should be around 78 for a hatchling and 72-75 for RES over a year. If water temps are correct, it could just be that he is happy to have his lights on, and it was time for a good shed.

i will check water temp tomorrow since i had to buy a new water heater as well today.. now im dirt poor again... lol but oh well as long as biff and my other 2 babies are happy i dont care. For some reason my older turtle has not bothered my younger hatchlings... he lets them on the basking spots and doesnt even bother them. Plus when i put there pellets(which are smaller than biffs) he doesnt eat them... does this mean biff is ok with it?

Iss he shedding skin or pieces of his shell?

Also.. how big is Biff compared to the other turtles? Larger turtles really shouldn't be with hatchlings. I recently saw pictures of a hatchling bitten in the face and had to be put down. It was very sad.

there about half biffs size but he seems very helpful to them like i actully saw him push the one up on my floating platform once. kinda weird if u ask me. Plus i just found out to day biff love ozzy and AC/DC!!! oh yea!!!
