Question about lighting...

Should the UVB light be over the water, in the basking section, or along the whole tank. I know it sounds like a dumb question, but that's the only thing I never learned. Any suggestions would be great.

UVB will not really penetrate glass, acrylic, water or fine mesh (screen tops). It's best for your turt if you position the light so it shines on the basking area. Distance should be determined by the type of bulb (tube or compact) and the amount of UVB the lamp puts out (3%, 5%, and 10% are the most popular).

It should shine over the basking area. If it shines over the water too, that's fine, but it's really needed over the basking area.

Yea definately over the basking area for the most part so when he is basking he will soak up what he needs.

It should be positioned over the basking area next to the heat/basking light. If you're using a tube UVB flourescent, postion as much as possible over the basking area.
