I have noticed that my RES has been FAvoring one eye by keeping it closed ~ 50% of the time when she is awake. When opened it looks normal. Any need for concern here?

How long has this been happening? Was it normal before? If it just started happening for a few days now and your RES is less active than before, then it may have early signs of an eye infection. Keep an eye (no pun intended) on its activity and eye for a little while longer, if it gets worse (ie. rarely moves, little activity, eye is swollen or pinker) or doesn't improve, I'd strongly recommend taking it to a vet.

My first RES died of an eye infection, and I waited 2 weeks to see if it would get better.

Yes, I'd be concerned. Something has irritated or infected the eye. Are you using a water conditioner? If so, have you recently switched to a new one? Try using Zoo Med Repti Turtle Eye Drops to open up the eye. Don't do this until your sure the water is acceptable. The eye has closed as a "defense mechanism" and it shouldn't be re-opened unless nothing will re-irritate it.

It could be the chlorine in the tap water.....I'd use conditioner. It's good for your turt and good for the filter too.

Does your turtle rub at the eye?

sometimes when he is eating, he rubs his face after chewing, may have scratched the eye. he seem to be ok since last night. Both eyes are open and he is swimming all around. keeping a close "eye" on it.
