When we first got our RES, they were bright green, etc. Lately it seems like Mitch's shell is getting darker .. is this because of basking .. or just getting older? I've seen pics of big turtles on here that looked almost black .. and i was just wondering if mitch was going to turn that color or if he was just going to remain a small tasty green morsel. lolz

As they grow and get older they start to lose the bright green color. Mine have already lost theirs.

My turts have a darker shell. It is simply because they are getting older. You will find yours to continue to get darker.

Yeah, it's impossible to keep a RES hatchling with a green shell, they will all darken to a copper to brown colour, except for those under heavy mineralized water, which will stain their shells to a cream-yellow color.

Hi,
The red ears are so pretty and cute as babies,as they get older their shell color gets dark. Their marking on the shells change every time they shed their shells.
