OKay, so some of you may recall... last time I totally changed the tank water and cleaned it, I put the turts and fish back in, and Lily went berzerk, ate about 6 feeders that had been there for months. Then she stopped. All month, no attacks.

Today, I changed the water completely again. Put them all back in. Once again, Lily went on a tear! She even ate (or tried) a larger goldfish I had. (My fiance continued to buy fish, some not feeders, although I warned against!). Aside from fearing that god is a goldfish, I'm not terribly torn up about the fish.

But I am curious. Anyone else experience this? Anyone have any ideas what could spark this behavior? Besides the large goldfish, she devoured the last rosie and a little lionhead goldfish. She tried to get the plecko but he was too fast. Weird! I actually even dropped pellets in to distract her. A few hours later, I had to take them all out. Not a one was eaten! Theories?

When you change the water, is it a little warmer or cooler? Enough to disorient the fish? >Cue soundtract from Jaws< DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM..........

Something similar just happened to me actually. I keep a couple fish in the tank that I feed my guys in. The fish had been around for about a month and were never eaten, but I put my turtles in that thank for only about 5 minutes today after I cleaned it so I could clean the other tank, and they ate both fish.

Maybe your turtle was saving the fish for later and when you changed it she feared you would take her fishies away! lol

LOL! Jaws music! Ah, the poor guys. Two more gone overnight... guess I'll just chalk it up to, hunm, saving them for later! NOT MUCH FUN trying to get the little tiny pieces of fish... STUFF out from between the leaves of plastic plants, I tell ya. Ugh. I am pleased to say the plecko, betta, and two guaramis are still holding on.

when I kept fish in there, I would put them in that tank about an hour before I put April in, just so they could get adjusted and find all the good hiding spots.

so then Kneenuh, was this something April did, too? That caused you to take that precaution? Interesting.... and I'll try that next time. I usually put them ni first, thinking the turts would otherwise get territorial, but perhaps no long enough for them to find their "hiding spots."

Well......sometimes it worked......but other times it wouldn't.

I've stopped keeping fish in her tank just because I don't want her over-eating.

But yes I had this problem before as well.

I have four minnows somehow still alive in her tank for about a week now. I shall be changing a good portion of the water this weekend, and I doubt they'll still be in there next week

actually i had a similar experience. After i upgraded the turtles tank and put rosies from my old tank into the new one, my turtles ate all but 1 of the rosies.

May be they're hungry or they show their exciting. I think that's not harm RES.
