Crush has been quite the cranky butt the past few days. i freaks out and starts swimming frantically if he sees me at all, and when i pull him out he tries with his best to bite me. this was normal behavior for like the first week i had him, but then he stopped and would even come to me. does anyone know what might cause this sudden crankiness? i enjoy his friendly moods better.

the only thing i can think of that i've done is a full water change in the big tank. i did make the new basking box, but that was only 2 days ago and he's been cranky for like a week.

Possible PMS......jsut kidding. Maybe it is a combination of the new basking box and the full water change. They are sometimes slow to change. Give him a couple of days and see if he settles down.

Yes, turtles aren't too good with change. (Kind of hurts that he doesn't appreciate all your efforts, huh?)

yes it does, lol. we were becoming such good buds and now i feel like he's mad at me *tear*. for a couple weeks he would even let me rub underneath his neck. i don't dare try that right now.

i'll try not to throw anymore changes at them. i've been rearranging their tank a lot lately too, i forgot about that. maybe if i just let them be for awhile he'll come back around. it's just kinda wierd, cuz Squirt is still mellow and friendly when I handle him......but he's always been that way, even right after i brought him home.

lol ..I hear ya though, Turts are very picky! When I change Tobi's water even 20% she dont move or bask much for a day or so then she will get back to normal.

My Herman is friendly now and then, and then not. For me, or rather.. for Herman, I think it's a matter of consistency. If I take him out every day for a week and just pet him or sit with him, he's good. But the day I take him out to clean him, he freaks the next time. And the next. And the next. Until I just leave him unhandled for a week. Then I go back to petting for a while.

you know, since i got Squirt I don't take them out as often as I used to. i take them out maybe twice a week now. before i got Squirt I used to take Crush out everyday and he would wander around the living, and i would put him on the couch with me and he would come right up next to me and stretch out his neck as far as it would go to look at me and i would pet him. maybe i need to make sure i take them out for a little while every day again.

I do too. I also need to be more consisten with training my dogs. Yesterday one ran off and went into frenzy mode in a goose-poop covered field. I slipped and fell about 6 times trying to get him. Wound up yelling at him, but later felt guilty. If he doesn't come when I tell him, I obviously wasn't consistent in my training. *sniff sniff*

It really is out of control how the happiness of my pets can make or break my whole day.

aw, i'm sorry kikicool. sounds like a miserable venture. i don't have any dogs yet. my wife wants a puppy but i'm not looking forward to the training part. i'm not that patient. i just want them to obey, i don't want to have to teach them to obey, lol.

i understand what you mean about your pets effecting you. when crush gets mad at me i feel.....well.....crushed

Sorry!! didnt' mean to. Nobody be sad. In fact, I'm taking the dogs for a run now, and then coming back and letting the turts wander. There will be joy everywhere in this home! Yours?

Sorry, this is a bit off topic, but if somebody wants a nice dog and doesn't want to fool with housebreaking, jumping up on people, and chewing on things, why don't you go to the local pound and get a nice adult dog? There are many great ones looking for homes!

that's where we're going to get our a dog whenever we get one. our apartment doesn't allow them, so we're not getting one now. my wife's just on this puppy craze right now. it's practically all she talks about. better than a baby craze i guess. she goes through those too. we just got married and i'm still in college, so i'm quite content with the two turtles for the time being. whenever we move to a place the allows dogs we're going to go get one from the pound tho.

Hmmm....just starting out....I remember those days. I had a cat, kid, dog, cat, bird, dog and turtle in that order. But it has been 17 years!!
