Do turtles sleep on there basking areas? This morning, before his lights were on, he was asleep on the platform and it took him a couple of seconds before he woke up after the lights were turned on.

Depends on the preference of your turtle, it isn't unheard of. Do you leave a heat light on all night?

No lights on at night. Heater keeps the temperature steady.

A heater will keep the water temp steady, but not your basking temp. Most turtles won't bask without a light that will produce some heat to the basking area, that's why I wondered if you had a heat light.

Does he go in the water during the day? Just make sure there isn't excessive basking, that isn't healthy either and could be a sign of illness. Not to freak you out, could just be that he likes to sleep on his dock, lol.

He always sleeps in the water. This is the first time we've seen him sleep on the platform. We don't notice excessive basking or excessive swimming. He has a good mix of the two.

Mine will often sleep on the ramp of his dock. I've never actually seen him up there (he seems to know when I'm watching him and wakes up) but I hear him climb onto it most nights.

spaz.. my female... will take little naps on the basking dock during the day... she may not be asleep but her eyes are closed, at least until she hears me coming over to the tank
