I'm looking for a pet store around the Detroit area that takes good care of their RES and sells healthy ones. Anyone know of one?

Depends on where you are. I live in Farmington Hills and have access to the Petco on Orchard Lake & 14 mile. One of the guys who works there is a reptile expert (personally has had snakes & tortoises for many years), and from what I have observed, their turtles are always in clean water with basking lamp & basking area. They only sell the 4" turtles tho.....no hatchlings.

I can offer the same thing to you that I did for Mkoby on this board (who also lives in the Detroit area)....if you want to go pick a turtle, I will meet you at the petstore of your choice & help you pick one! Lemme no....

Rickiew04- Have you checked your Pet Classified ads? Looks like you have alot of RES dealers in your area. Or just someone who HAS to sell theirs because of lack of space or money, etc. (I dont know if anyone can verify 100% that your RES will be healthy whether its from a pet store or a dealer?!)

I would advise looking at watching, then coming back and doing it again a couple times at least to make sure the behavior of the one you may be interested in is good as well as the conditions of living is up to par. (Unless you wanna rescue and have the money to go to vet for a check up asap) You still may have a *sickish* turt after you get home. Anyone who gets a RES or any animal runs the risk of having a sick animal once it gets home. Anything can happen, but if you have it checked out if needed...you can enjoy raising a healthy baby! (or bigger one if you want)

Be prepared for any vet bills you may occur anyway. And make sure to have the set up ready if you have other RES, make sure you have a 2nd tank as well for seperation in the beginning in case the RES is ill at all so it doesnt pass to the others.

Keep checking! You'll be able to find one!

*UPDATE* or take IND-GIRL with you :D

Craigslist also is a place to find unwanted RES. You might also be able to get some supplies along with a turtle...

What do you guys think about those eggs on craigs list? Do you think the turtles will be healthy? Is there a certain time of year when they hatch?

The eggs should be hatching right around now. Don't know anything about craigslist since I have never bought anything thru it.

Well...I emailed the seller, and she said the eggs had hatched a week ago. She has 30 left, and says they are healthy. She said she is keeping them in a tank, but the tank has gravel in it. I emailed her back about the gravel problems and she said that they are too small to eat the gravel. I can't get one for a few more weeks, but hopefully she will have some healthy little ones left!
