I have a baby RES recently my 10 gallon tank cracked while I was cleaning it. So the new home for my RES until it grows bigger is an 18 gallon Rubbermaid. I'm using my filter which can filter out water from 10 to 20 gallons and my water heater. My water heater can heat up most of the water up to almost 80 about to 76. I don't have much money and to get one will take a couple days. Can my RES hold out until I get more money?

A tank isnt neccesary, I and alot of people on this site..use rubbermaid containers. Personally i think a tank is a waste of money (IMO). A turtle would feel more safe inside a rubbermaid container than a tank.

The good thing about rubbermaid containers are:

-They are very cheap (10$ max)

-They come in diferent sizes (even 100 gallons and up if you use a rubbermaid stock tank)

-A turtle will feel safer

-Easy to replace

-You can throw it out a 3 story window and it probably wouldnt break

-Oh, and did i mention its cheap?

Oh I'm sorry I didn't specify my question. The problem is that the heater isn't heating how it's suppsed to probably due to the size increase. It's maximum heating is at 76 degreees. I can't afford another water heater for a couple days unless I ask my parents who aren't supportive of the turtle. They don't believe that it needs all of these things. They just think it needs a tank and water. I want to know if my turtle can hold out.

76 degrees isnt too bad (two degrees less of what the water temp should be), your turtle will do fine..

I know you have a heater and filter, but do you have a UVB light? Just curious, because UVB is often ignored.

Okay, good Try to make the water temp stay at a stable 76 degrees (since it cant go any higher). Keep a very close eye on the water temperature!

In a couple of days when you can buy one, they have really cheap heaters at walmart... usually you can find one for $10

If you're that concerned, lower the water level-- that will put less stress on the structure of the rubbermaid and allow the heater and filter to work better.

Yup. I'd also go for the clear ones... they seem to be thicker than the colored versions and cracks will be more visible.
