I have a baby RES. he's a little bigger than a 50 cent piece. He has great color, clear eyes, hard shell, good appetite and is very active. But he spends over 60% of his time behind the black poles that hold up his floating dock. why does he do this? I have a basking lamp and the water temp is a constant 78 degrees. By the way, the turt in the pic isn't mine.
anyhow. I was just wondering... thanks!

you don't have the bar to the dock set up in your tank the same way it is in the picture do you? if so, then take the suction cups off the bottom STAT. turtles can get stuck in there. they really love to wedge themselves into places, but that could be disasterous. my turtle got stuck in those bars twice.

How long have you had it? If youve only had it a little while, its probably hiding from you... I have the suction cups on the bottom of mine (but yours is a hatchling, so it might get stuck easier) but move that black bar that goes across on the bottom... turn it around so that black bar goes across the top, it will not effect the dock.
