Not at all, it all depends. If you post a picture we will easily be able to tell if it's shell rot or not

I've never had the pleasure of having to deal with shell rot myself, I believe it starts on the scutes. Turts can develop it when they don't (or can't) get out of the water to dry off and bask.....

yea my big one doesn't get out and bask much but he does some.

If you look underneath the greyness is it sorta transparent? Where you could see scutes underneath?

There is no problem health wise, you just have a unique turtle.
P.S. A scute is one of the small shapes the make up the shell.

My turtles have grey separating their scutes. Your turtle looks fine!

The gray area is where the scutes grow. It looks like your turtle is growing.

Looks like he is growing! FYI - their shell color will change as they get older....turning more into brown rather than the bright green.
