Its been a few days now, is it normal for my turtle to still try and get out of the tank? He just swims against the wall of tank constantly. Otherwise he is eating or sleeping.

however I did introduce a new hatchling to the tank just yesterday. They are both about the same size, but the new hatchling is not as shy

is this normal? or is there somethign wrong with my setup?
I rarely see him basking anymore!

I just have to say that if you hadn't done so, it would have been good to quarantine the new hatchling for several months to make sure he's healthy and doesn't have anything your turtle could catch.

Perhaps your turtle is seeing his reflection. You could try covering the outer part of the tank (aquarium background is good) or put an object like a fake plant where he swims the most and see if he still does it.

my turtle does that when he is hungry, as soon as I feed him he stops. He will claw the glass while he is on his basking platform and he tries to stand up straight. I put a tank cover on his tank so nothing will happen to him.

oh, maybe, my entire tank is clear right now, I have no back to it. is that okay or should I put up a background? I like it better with all 4 sides visible though :)

Up to you. If you want to see if the reflection is the problem, put some kind of backing up. If the swimming stops, you take it away and it starts again, that's the reason.

You can still have bare sides with some fake plants in the tank.
