I'm on spring break this week, so i thought i'd use some of my free time to upgrade Turtley's tank. I made a glass wall to go around half of the top of the tank so that i could raise the water level without him escaping, and i replaced his acrylic dock with corkbark. I made a background for the tank out of pictures from national geographic, and i got him a sweet fake tree root to rest on.

Here's what the tank looked like before:

And here's what it looks like now:

And here's a view of the new basking area:

No basking yet, but he went up a couple of times and checked it out. He seems really excited to have so much more water to swim around in, and i really like the way the background looks. Everybody's happy! :D

Sweet! It looks like it fits perfectly. That's one way to fill the tank without having to build something on top......

That's cool! Is the cork bark just wedged in place, or did you use something else to have it stay in one spot?

Thats awesome. You have a very cool looking clean, natural setup.

Thanks guys! I cut the corkbark sothat it would fit in snugly and stay in place. I'm liking the "natural" look, the old setup seemed so sterile and boring.

That looks great... so much for those above tank basking area thingys :D

Keep in mind that the cork might expand a little over time. Or if it wears out a bit, you can use magnets or suction cups for support.

I'll need some higher-res pics from you too ;)

I'll take a few more pictures when i get back this weekend. Turtley has been basking like a champ all day, i think he likes it. He's also started using his tree root to rest on a lot, so i think i have his full approval on the renovation.

I am so glad you made that basking area, observation thingy! I saw somethinkg like that at another site and had a hard time trying to get my dad to see my "vision". I showed him your new setup and he went right to work calling his friend about cutting glass for us to do this. Yours looks great and I can hardly wait to see pics of Turtley using his new basking area.
