so i've been really hating the horrible puke yellow color of my turtle dock, and my mom suggested that we should use baby-safe spraypaint on it, or waterproof stuff.

what do you think? think it might be toxic?

I read a recent discussion on a reef keeping forum about Krylon spray paint. Basically many of them used it to camouflage pipes, etc. without negative results and reefs are very sensitive to changes in water chemistry. One guy had contacted Krylon and the company said that the product was NOT safe for aquarium use. So the official line was that it was not safe, but several reef keepers used it anyway without harm.

I spray painted the screen on top of my tank, but it doesnt come in contact with either the water or the turt. Since turtles also tend to eat stuff too you might risk some ingestion. Thats a concern we have that the reef folks dont.

Personally I would be cautious about the spray paint and not use it on things that the turt would have contact with - I would buy a piece of cork bark. You could use it in another tank too when you upgrade.

I'm starting to wonder if you got a weird color dock. I've purchased two so far, and both are a light cement color. By no means are they spectacular to look at, but they don't remind me of vomit either.

There are yellow ones and grey ones, Meg. I have the yellow one that she's referring to. I never thought of it as puke colored but...

I wouldn't use spray paint, you could try decorating it or getting a different kind.
