Moxie's new screen porch *Updated - Moxie's reaction

Miss Moxie had a bit of an adventure on Christmas day. I had to be at my parents' house for two and a half days, so I asked Michael to stop over and check the turtles on his way home. He called me and asked, "Where's Moxie?" I was like, "What do you mean where's Moxie?" She was not in her tank. So I'm on the phone while Michael's searching for her, and finally finds her asleep in the kitchen, all sucked into her shell and covered in dust.

She appears to be fine...eating fine, swimming fine, basking, no apparent injuries or bleeding, nothing showing in the seams of her plastron, no breathing issues. Rather amazing.

She has had an above tank basking area, which was escape proof as long as the water level was low enough. Unfortunately, I had decided to raise the water level and cover the other half of the tank with plexiglass. We figure she must have either jumped from her basking area to the top of the plexi, or, more likely, hooked a claw on the lip of the tank and pushed the plexi out of the way.

Anyway, it was apparent that her tank needed to be enclosed. So I give you....Turtle Screen Porch! It's rough looking, but should do the trick.

Very nice work, but maybe you should add some life to the tank.

Don't forget Grey Goose's signature... "Make it turtle proof, and they'll build a better turtle."

It looks good. Are those just different size screen tops for tanks?

No, it's actually just poplar dowels nailed/glued together with ordinary window screening hot glued to the edges. I needed to be able to make it fit around my filter and work with the basking spot I had already built so I couldn't use any of the things I found ready-made.

And I would like to be able to add some stuff to the tank, but Moxie and Napoleon have both been treated for worms lately, and it's just so much easier to keep the tanks clean when there's nothing on the bottom to trap debris. I'm sure they would like something to play with but they've never shown interest in rocks or floating balls or anything in the past.
