Hey guys, it's me again! So it's that time again... I need to clean my filter, and have a few questions on cleaning/updating it.
First off, I have a Xp3 and noticed my outflow is pushing water out slower and slower. Hopefully the reason is because the tubing has ALOT of algae build-up.
When I do clean my filter I normally take out and clean off all my media, refill it and call it a day. But I was told I am suppose to clean something internally but have no idea how or what I need to be cleaning internally that is.
And for those that remember me, I'm going to Home Depot tomorrow and having a temporary ATBA built so hopefully I'll have some pics soon.

Jimmy,
I don't have a canister filter, i run a sump but i can tell you just make sure all of the inlets and outlets are free of gunk. Use some pipecleaners for that. Keep the biomedia fresh (don't rinse it out in tap water, use some tank water for that). Check around the pump impeller for any build up (or hair, sometimes hair always finds its way into pumps and can really cause some problems). I wouldn't completely scrub down the inside of the canister. That think film of slime is all good bacteria and will help with you bioload in your canister. Hope that helps!

Yeah make sure you clean the impeller of slime, and it may be time to clean out your tubes. Put a paper towel/rag on the end of a dowel and ram it through the tubes to clean them out.
Been awhile since you've been around. How've you been?

Thanks for the info guys, by impeller, you mean the little white gear thing in the middle of the under side of the filter?
@Chris
I've been good, just a little busy with work and what not. I am just going to buy new tubing and going with the outflow like you have. I think the rain bar thing gets clogged too easily.

Yes.
Good to hear. Yeah I don't bother cleaning out tubes. I just replace 'em. It's only a few bucks
