I have a 50 watt basking bulb and I bought a Petco thermometer and it says the temperature around the basking area is 105 degrees... I keep my lamp 7" away from the dock and the turtle seems to enjoy it, should i leave it this way or should I move it? The thermometer could be wrong.

i think thats a little too hot for the turtle. if i wore you i would try and decrease the temp and let him cool off a bit and not have a sweaty turtle (turtles dont sweat...right?). but if i wore you, i would check in difference in behavior but to be on the safe side drop the temp to about 75-80

The water should be around 74 to 77 and the basking should be 90 to 91 degrees. Basking at 105 is a little too hot. I suggest that you shade it a little or increase the distance. m.
