Homemade Basking Area

I'm trying to make a basking area for my little turtle. Due to financial concerns, I tried putting a piece of PVC pipe in for it to crawl up on. I wasn't thinking, duh, that the PVC pipe is smooth and it can't really get up onto it.

So, is there anything that I can put on top of it? Like the indoor/outdoor carpeting or those rubber mats that you line your shelves with? (I have both sitting around the house.) I'm just looking for something fast and temporary.

Also, if I were to attach something to the PVC pipe, what kind of glue/adhesive could I use that would be water-durable and non-toxic to my RES?

Hmm... how about if you carve lines on the PVC to make it rough? I guess
crisscross lines will make the surface rough.

PVC / tile platforms are great. A pic of mine on the bottom of this page: www.redearslider.com/custom_platforms.html

You might also want to consider cork bark, depending on the size you need.
