We started with a "starter" turtle set up for Turbo since we only had a few days notice of his arrival. I already ordered a canister filter as per your recommendations on the site. (Great site, btw. I have already lost hours reading on here).

If anyone can recommend item placement changes, that would be great. My daughter is 7 and she had to save up for her turtle stuff, so we will gradually update the setup.

That's not nearly enough water or filter. I'd look into a larger tank and start researching canister filters. Ditch the mesh as it blocks much of the UVB from the lamp. You can get clamp dome lights from the hardware store for cheap and clamp them on the rim of the tank or just suspend / hang the lights you currently have. If you must have a cover for the tank look at something like egg crate (it's really sold as 1/2" plastic light diffuser for fluorescent fixtures). The egg crate is super cheap at you local hardware store and will let much more of the UVB pass through.

You seem to have all of the rest of the basics down. Your turtle looks happy and welcome to the forum!

He might be 3 inches if he sticks his head and his tail all the way out. Shell is about 2 inches long.

You already have nice light domes keep them and hang them if need be. I would also add more water. Looks good.Your on the right track. What canister filter did you buy?

Would you be able to return the starter kit? It's not bad but it's a bit pricey for what you're getting back. Turbo Looks great!

It was onsale for $90 bucks. I think it will get us through a bit until I find a different set up for him.

Probably made in the same factory as the SunSun. It's pretty common in Asia that the factories make the same product for different "companies". You see it a lot with phone accessories.

Seems to be working well so far, just started using it a few days ago. New to the this turtle thing, so took me a little to figure out the filter. It wouldn't work in the tank I had pictured above.

With the Petco sale on tanks, I picked up a new tank. Please check it out and sent let me know if I have anything wrong or could be better. I picked up one of those floating docks on clearance, but he seems to like his rock better, so I changed it out.

your lights both need to be shining on the dock or rock. Other than that looks good. Keep in mind screen tops cut way down on uvb light. You can also add sand to the tank. Its real easy to keep clean and looks nice. Comes in many colors. I like white!

The tubes were too long for the amount of water. The tank had half of the left side cut-out to place the filter that came with it. With that cut out, I couldn't fill the tank up more than it was in the picture at the top. The "started" water turtle box from Petco was terrible for my slider. Luckily it was on sale and didn't hit hit me too hard.

Thanks for the light advice. I need to get out and pick up some clamps for those lights.
