Hi, all! Slowly but surely, George's home is coming together. She's now 9 months old.

The hood/cover for her 10 gallon tank has a tiny square lid opening in front. Am I supposed to get something from Petsmart, a lamp with a clamp that goes over the tank, even if the lid is on (which it usually is, 99.999% of the time ever since her Operation Escape a few weeks ago) and position her basking dock beneath that open lid where the lamp will hopefully easily position?? Not much clamp space, so not sure how this will work effectively.

Can you also please discuss UV light and basking heat sources in general? We'll be a'shopping here:

I think lids should be skipped with turtles - at least in most cases. A simple wire shelf or egg crate can be used to cover it but allow warmth and UVB to easily pass through. Either can be trimmed and painted to match your decor.

Are these lights for the 10 gallon or are you planning an upgrade?

It's actually Kansasslider's idea. He has a picture in one of his old posts. It's one of the nice looking/simple solutions that I like.

Then what about a rack from an oven or something? Though there are small wire shelves out there too.

The only downside to using wire shelf is cutting it. I used a grinder. Then painted it with krylon spray paint.
