Habitat - Indoor :: Photoperiod? Lights on-Length

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

One more additional question husbandry-related. I currently have Shelldon's photoperiod at about 12 hours, with the lights on at 7:30 AM and off at 7:30 PM I have read that maybe changing it from season to season may be a good idea, with it slightly shorter during the winter and slightly longer during the summer. I am not entirely sure, however. What do you think? At the moment it has been 12 hours year round. But I am not entirely sure what the advantages would be to changing it to longer/shorter depending on the season. Would 11 hours in the winter and 13 hours in the spring be better? If, so, why exactly?

Thank you.

Either is fine, as long as the turtle is basking and getting their UVB. Their personalities vary, and mine don't bask a much during winter periods. As long as you are offering it, I would not overthink it. They don't benefit from it if they don't bask under it but I'd also make sure their diet includes some Vit D3.
