I've been having trouble keeping Leo's fake plants at the bottom of his tank, as they're designed to have fish tank gravel holding them down, and my tank has no gravel ...I was wondering if anyone had any secrets for keeping these things sunken... I've tried medium sized stones but they don't seem to hold and I'm hesitant to glue any weights in case it's toxic....

I've got a bunch of plastic bases that I used aquarium silicone to glue some flat rocks to to keep the plants from floating (I change plants when I feel like it), yet they can be repositioned as I (or my turtle) want them. You could also use suction cups (make a hole in them) to stick the plant in and suction them to the bottom of the tank.

Someone else here had siliconed the stones to the part of the plant where the gravel would normally go. This might work for you since you already have the stones.

What I did was take off the plastic holder thing at the bottom of the plastic plant and just leave the plastic stem. I then took some soft rocks and drilled holes big enough to fit them stems in and then filled the holes with silicone and pushed the stems in and let it dry for 24 hours. Works perfectly and looks nice too. You can see pictures of it in my turtle gallery.

If you want to save yourself some hassle, you can buy fake plants that are already weighted. That's what I use. It's a lot easier. Some actually come with suction cups as well. Depends on where you get them.

I wish I'd found those! I stole suction cups from my first heater to anchor the plants! And I thought I was being inventive...

I just bought a bunch (by a bunch I mean tons) of river rock and put them all over the bottom of my tank and used those to weigh down my plants. I had the plants that are already weighed down but those just got shoved around constantly by my turtle and he would try and shove them into the filter or onto the heater so now these are literally set in stone and he cannot move them.

Good ideas! I'll have a look for the weighted/suction cup plants today, as I'm setting up Ralph's new tank today
