I just got some fake plants, and they have a larger bottom to them that looks like it's shaped to make an "anchor" to keep it in place. But it's only big enough to capture something small like gravel. Way too small for the river rocks I have in there. Right now, it's kinda staying on the bottom, but if the turtle knocks into it, I'm sure it'll break loose, and float to the top. Is there any way I can fill the bottom part with something to keep it from floating to the top?

Also, what could I use that is turtle-safe?

Can you post a picture of the anchor area of the plant?

You could try to use some suction cups made for anchoring plants. or.. I found this site long time about about DIY plant anchors.. You could make it bigger or smaller as you need

By larger bottom, do you mean a plastic base? If so, I've used aquarium silicone to glue flat rocks to the bottoms of plastic bases to keep the plants from floating.

Ok, so I drew a picture to make it easier to understand. The grey part is open, as if you could fill it with something. It's not quite that deep, but my paint skills aren't that great.



If I use aquarium silicone, where would I be able to buy that? Can you get it at just a regular pet store? I don't think I've ever seen it before.

Aquarium silicone is available at every pet store so you should have no problem getting it.

You can easily aquarium silicone it. But also there are some fake plants made by Tetra that have the "easy disconnect base" and i find those work perfect with some medium size suction cups (a lil silcon or hot glue will make it stay attached) and you can stick them to the side of the tank for a "hardly underwater sleeping area"

Aquarium silicone is usually in the fish section at pet stores. If you go that route, just make sure to let the silicone cure for about 48 hours.

I have a better idea I had the same problem... you can pull the fake plants off the the bottom that is suppose to go under the gravel.... then go to the pet store and buy the suction cups that hold the tubes in place and stick the plants in there... that is what I do and it works perfect..

What I did was pull that plastic piece off the bottom until I just had the stem of the fake plant. I got some soft type rocks from the pet store and broke off a chunk and smoothed over all the edges by grinding it against some concrete and then drilled a hole about halfway into the rock. I filled the hole with aquarium silicone and stuck the stem in and let it dry 24 hours and it works great and looks nice. You can see pictures of them in my turtle gallery.

well here what i do, i pull the plastic crap off and get some suction cups that hold the air lines on. The suction cup will come with a camp type thing for the air line, pull this off. now connect the bottom of the plant by putting the end of the plant into the hole in the suction cup.

I just got a rock with a spot for 2 fake plants on it from Petsmart, they also had a larger rock that had spots for 3 plants. Here is the LINK.

Those look nice and pretty natural, but are also quite expensive. You can buy a pack of six suction cups for like a buck...
